Additional Information

Farming is largely driven by the activity of microorganisms. If farmers understand how these microorganisms function in the soil, they can use this knowledge effectively to improve their farming practices. Most microorganisms are single-celled, and they are classified into the following groups:

  1. Bacteria
  2. Actinomycetes
  3. Fungi
  4. Algae
  5. Protozoa
  6. Viruses
  7. Nematodes

Microorganisms that benefit agriculture are called positive (beneficial) microorganisms, while those that harm crops are called pathogenic (harmful) microorganisms.

Over the past two to three decades, the use of chemical fertilizers in farming has increased significantly, while the use of organic fertilizers has decreased. Similarly, frequent use of flood irrigation has caused excess moisture in the soil. All these factors have negatively affected the growth of beneficial soil microorganisms. As a result, the soil’s physical, biological, and consequently chemical properties have deteriorated. This has not only reduced soil fertility but also increased the occurrence of soil-borne pests and diseases in recent years.

Among these problems, wilt diseases and nematode attacks have increased greatly across various crops. Wilt disease is caused mainly by harmful fungi or bacteria such as Fusarium, Pythium, Phytophthora, Rhizoctonia, etc. To control these, farmers commonly rely on chemical pesticides. However, if preventive measures are not taken from the beginning, the cost of treatment increases over time, and severe infestation can cause major crop losses. Moreover, excessive use of chemical pesticides destroys beneficial fungi and bacteria, ultimately reducing soil fertility.

For the control of wilt and nematodes, WMF is a highly effective product. Using WMF helps control various wilt diseases across different crops—such as wilt and dieback in pomegranate, rhizome rot in turmeric and ginger, wilt in vegetables, and wilt in capsicum and chili. It also provides excellent control over nematodes in various crops.

It is recommended to use WMF from the planting stage itself to prevent future disease outbreaks and reduce the need for chemical pesticides later.

Benefits

  • Krishi-WMF is highly effective in controlling wilt disease, rhizome rot, and dieback in various crops.
  • Krishi-WMF also effectively controls nematodes in crops.
  • Since it reduces the need for chemical pesticides, it helps farmers save on cultivation costs.
